SDLT depends on the price, whether the buyer owns other homes and whether they are a UK resident. First-time buyers receive relief on part of the price up to £500,000, and buyers of additional homes pay a surcharge. Scotland charges Land and Buildings Transaction Tax and Wales charges Land Transaction Tax.
