Brera apartment on a cobbled street
Brera, Milan
By ·Giulia Romano

Brera is Milan’s historic art district, with cobbled streets, galleries, boutiques and an art academy. It is one of the most atmospheric and expensive places to live in the city.
Cobblestone lanes, courtyard buildings, wine bars and the Pinacoteca di Brera set the tone. The area is compact, walkable and almost car-free in the evenings.
Lanza, Montenapoleone and Moscova metro stops are all within a short walk, and the Duomo is 15 minutes on foot. Many residents cycle or take the tram.
In 2026 the median sale price is about €890K, roughly €9,800 per square metre, and a typical 2-bedroom rental costs about €2,900 a month. Prices are up 2.6% on a year ago and homes take around 80 days to sell, which points to strong demand.
Evenings are lively around the bars, so ask about courtyard-facing bedrooms. Period buildings often have limited lifts and parking, and garage spaces are costly.
