Altbau apartment with stucco near Kollwitzplatz
Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin
By ·Jonas Becker

Prenzlauer Berg is a family-friendly district of restored Altbau apartments, cafes and tree-lined streets in northeast Berlin. It is calm and walkable, with playgrounds on nearly every block.
Restored 19th-century tenement buildings, boutiques, Sunday flea markets and playgrounds define the area, which has the city’s highest density of children. Kollwitzplatz and Mauerpark are its social centres.
The U2, S41, S42 and trams M10 and M1 reach Alexanderplatz in 10 to 15 minutes. Cycling to Mitte takes about 15 minutes.
In 2026 the median sale price is about €430K, roughly €6,200 per square metre, and a typical 2-bedroom rental costs about €1,600 a month. Prices are up 2.5% on a year ago and homes take around 55 days to sell, which points to strong demand.
Prices have climbed as the area has gentrified, and milieu protection rules restrict some renovations. Streets are quiet by Berlin standards, though Schönhauser Allee has some traffic noise.
