About Manchester
A red-brick industrial heritage now sits beside glass towers and converted mills, with the Northern Quarter, Castlefield and Deansgate each pulling a different crowd. The city has a big student population and a growing base of young professionals.
The Metrolink tram, buses and a compact city centre make car-free living realistic. Piccadilly station runs fast trains to London in just over two hours, and the airport is about 20 minutes by rail.
In 2026 the median sale price is about £275K, roughly £3,900 per square metre, and a typical 2-bedroom rental costs about £1,450 a month. Prices are up 4.8% on a year ago and homes take around 28 days to sell, which points to very strong demand.
New-build apartment supply is heavy in the centre, so compare service charges and ground rent carefully and be wary of cladding history. Outside the centre, suburbs such as Didsbury offer good schools and a village feel.
