Pre-war two-bedroom co-op near Central Park
Upper West Side, New York
By ·Marcus Bell

The Upper West Side is a residential Manhattan neighbourhood of pre-war co-ops, brownstones and leafy streets between Central Park and the Hudson. It is known for strong schools, cultural institutions and a family-friendly feel.
Grand apartment buildings line Central Park West and West End Avenue, with brownstones on the side streets. Lincoln Center, the American Museum of Natural History and Riverside Park anchor daily life.
The 1, 2, 3, B and C lines reach Midtown in 10 to 20 minutes, and Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues are served by crosstown buses. Many residents walk through Central Park.
In 2026 the median sale price is about $1.3M, roughly $14,000 per square metre, and a typical 2-bedroom rental costs about $5,600 a month. Prices are up 2.2% on a year ago and homes take around 75 days to sell, which points to strong demand.
Pre-war co-ops dominate, so boards, flip taxes and underlying mortgages matter. Streets are quiet at night but busy on weekends near the museums.
